Juneteenth Volunteers Needed

Juneteenth, or Freedom Day, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans on June 19, 1865. In Mankato, we celebrate this day by honoring our community’s rich history of activism and the ongoing struggle for racial justice. Each year, we gather to reflect on the legacy of those who fought for freedom and to reaffirm our commitment to building an equitable future for all. This year’s theme is Rooted in History, Rising Together.
Volunteer needs include:

Moving Assistance Needed from RSOs
Move Crew
Move Crew volunteers assist by unloading vehicles, watching belongings, directing traffic, and most importantly, engaging with our incoming Mavericks and their families. With several hundred students and their families coming to campus, you're sure to make a big impact! Volunteers will be provided with a Move Crew hat and are encouraged to wear Minnesota State University, Mankato apparel or any apparel that is connected to their RSO. Participating in Move Crew offers several benefits, including:
Opportunities for RSOs to be awarded monetary awards ranging from $75-$150
Having your RSO featured in one of Residential Life's weekly newsletters
A chance to win gift cards
Thursday, August 20th
Shifts are from 8:15am-11:15am, 11:00am-2:00pm and 1:45pm-4:30pm.

Mavs in Action news
This last Saturday, Mavs in Action volunteers ventured out to a variety of off-campus volunteer opportunities for our annual Maverick Day of Service! Some of these volunteer opportunities included roadside clean up, pet shelter assistance, building garden beds, and helping families move. In just one day, volunteers were able to make a huge difference in the greater Mankato community. Thank you to everyone who showed up and made this possible!
The Mankato city newspaper, The Reporter, recognized the great success that this event turned out to be! Go check it out for yourselves: The Reporter Article
On Thursday, volunteers helped us prepare for the affirmation station! During finals week, Mavs in Action is going to have a station for students to give and take words of affirmation. Be sure to take a mental break from finals and stop by!
We also had the opportunity to bring remaining books from our March Book Drive to Old Main Village! Residents have the opportunity to sort through these books and give them a second life. Thanks again to everyone who donated to the book drive, these books continue to make an impact!
Mavs in Action has just ONE MORE volunteer event! Be sure to sign up for the sidewalk chalk event this upcoming Thursday to get your final volunteer hours in!
